Want to turn your next trade show or conference into a video content extravaganza?

Here's the plan. 

Before the show, decide what you're capturing. Don't think in terms of “shooting video.” Think in terms of assets. 
 
Pick three to five video types you want to leave with. 
 
For example: 
 
• Customer sound bites 
 
• Expert insights (or FAQs) 
 
• Product or solution walkthroughs 
 
• Event atmosphere and interactions 
 

Once you've identified your categories, create two or three simple questions for each. Prompts like, "What problem were you trying to solve?" or "What's one trend you're seeing right now?" are often all you need. 

Next, schedule content capture instead of hoping it happens. 

Identify customers, partners, or team members you'd like to feature and invite them ahead of time. Even a few ten-minute time slots can make a huge difference. 

At the event, keep things simple. 

You don't need a studio setup, but if possible, find a quiet space or small meeting room near the show floor. Fewer interruptions mean better conversations and stronger content. 

Focus on getting clear, authentic answers rather than perfect performances. Short clips—90 seconds or less—work best. 

Between interviews, capture plenty of B-roll footage. Get wide shots of the event, booth interactions, conversations, product demos, and anything that helps tell the story. 

That footage is what brings future videos to life. 

After the show, organize everything right away. Sort footage by category and speaker, pull your strongest sound bites first, and decide where each piece of content will be used before editing begins. 

A single trade show can easily generate months of content when approached with a plan.

Along with celebrating the past, River City Company unveiled its capital campaign for Riverfront Parks Next, giving supporters a glimpse of what the future could look like. Twenty shoots in ten days sounds a little ridiculous… because it kind of was. :) 

While crews across the country were capturing interviews, product footage, company stories, safety content, and construction updates, every project had the same goal of helping clients tell their story in a way people actually connect with.
