The Power of Positive Thinking

“I Had Fun Once. It was Awful.” I’m hoping that those of you who are continuing to read this understand the Grumpy Cat reference. If not, oh well. Maybe you don’t need to read this blog because you are as perky and as energized as can be. Good for you!

In 20+ years of owning a video production agency, I’ve had my share of ups and downs. The highs are really high, and the lows can be really, really low.

It’s easy to let negative thoughts take over when a project isn’t going as smoothly as I’d like, or when cash isn’t flowing into our business quite as frequently as I’d like. One thing I’ve learned is that even if there isn’t much I can do to control what’s happening in my business, I can control my thoughts.

If you’re in a bad situation, choosing to focus on the negative will only make things worse. Negative thoughts shut down the part of your brain that helps you solve problems.

Negativity destroys creativity, and believe it or not, creative thought isn’t just reserved for your “creative” work. It takes creativity energy to solve every kind of problem. Such as:

  • How can you attract more clients or recruit better talent?

  • How can you generate more sales or increase profit margins?

  • How can you add more value for members so you can improve retention?

Positive thoughts will help you answer the above questions much faster than negative ones. Plus, choosing to be positive will enable you to solve issues in your business with a lot less stress.

Even when things aren’t going well, if I remain positive and thankful for what I “do” have, everything seems to work out. No matter how bad things get at times in your business (or life), choose to remain positive about what you have already accomplished, and stay focused on good things to come.
